Skillset Courses

To assist those facing challenges in accessing formal T&I training, BIC also provides Skill Set Courses that align with NAATI’s prerequisite requirements for specific credentials.

What are the Skill Set courses?
Getting certified by NAATI requires you to complete formal training in translating and/or interpreting. However, NAATI understands that formal training can be hard to access, depending on the language and location.
To support people to access the minimum training to start working in the profession, NAATI recognises the below Skill Set Courses as meeting some or all of NAATI’s prerequisite requirements for the following credentials (depending on the type of training completed):

1. Recognised Practising Translator or Interpreter
2. Certified Translator
3. Certified Provisional Interpreter.

A Skill Set Course will cover the following Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) units that provide foundational training in translation and interpreting and is generally taught in mixed-language cohorts. Find out more on Naati.

PSPSS00063 - Introduction to Interpreting Skill Set

Course Description: Graduates of this course satisfy NAATI's prerequisites for sitting the Certified Provisional Interpreter Tests (only available for languages NAATI have tests for, see more details).

Completion: 
Passed all assignments & assessments. Babel International College will issue a statement of attainment.

- Age 18 or above
- Completion of Year 12 or above
- Language Proficiency Requirement: IELTS overall band 6 or equivalent
- Full qualification training not available for the specific Language Other Than English (LOTE)
